Set up Small Business Email in Outlook for Android
Use these steps to connect Outlook for Android to your Small Business Email mailbox using IMAP and SSL/TLS. Labels can vary between app versions.
Example domain only:
Wherever you see clientdomain.co.uk, type the domain after the @ in your own email address.
Your Small Business Email package includes a custom mail hostname and webmail URL. In this guide we will use mail.clientdomain.co.uk as a placeholder.
For example, if your email address is joebloggs@clientdomain.co.uk, your server would be mail.clientdomain.co.uk.
Before you begin
Have your full email address and mailbox password available. If your account requires an app password for email apps, use that instead. Your Client Management Portal password may be different. This IMAP setup synchronises email only, not server calendars or contacts.
Add your mailbox
- Open Outlook. If this is the first account, tap Add Account or Get Started. Otherwise, open the profile/menu icon, then Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Add an email account. Some versions show Add Email Account directly under Settings.
- Enter your full email address and tap Continue or Add Account.
- If Outlook detects the settings, review them before completing setup. If it chooses the wrong account type or asks you to choose a provider, select Set up account manually or Not Exchange?, then choose IMAP.
- Enable Advanced settings if shown. Enter your display name, account description and mailbox or app password.
- Enter the incoming and outgoing settings below. Keep the username as your full email address for both connections.
- Tap the tick/checkmark or Sign In to verify and save. Skip adding another account if you are finished.
Connection settings
| Setting | Incoming | Outgoing |
|---|---|---|
| Protocol | IMAP | SMTP |
| Server (placeholder; use your own domain) | mail.clientdomain.co.uk |
mail.clientdomain.co.uk |
| Port | 993 | 465 |
| Security | SSL/TLS (sometimes labelled SSL) | SSL/TLS (sometimes labelled SSL) |
| Username | Your full email address | Your full email address |
| Password | Your mailbox or app password | The same password; authentication required |
If your version has no separate port fields and expects a port in the server field, append :993 to your own incoming hostname and :465 to your own outgoing hostname. For example, mail.clientdomain.co.uk:993 is still a placeholder: replace the domain before using it. Do not add https:// to a mail-server field.
If automatic discovery returns a recognised Small Business Email service hostname instead of your domain-based hostname, it can be correct. Check that the account uses IMAP with SSL/TLS and ports 993 and 465. If you cannot select or verify secure settings, contact support rather than disabling encryption.
Test and troubleshoot
Allow your folders to synchronise. Send a message to another address you can access, then reply to it. If sending fails, check outgoing authentication, your full email address and port 465. Do not bypass certificate warnings. Back up messages stored only on the device before removing an existing account.
For help, contact us through the Client Management Portal with your Outlook version and error message. Never send your password.
